I am honoured and grateful to serve as President of the United Filipino Canadian Seniors Association of Hamilton (UFCSAH). I observe this role knowing that our organization has placed great trust in me to lead us forth and to overcome upcoming challenges. As I assume leadership, my first thought is gratitude to my colleagues for their support. Together, we shall continue the good work and empower the lives of those we touch. We will actively strengthen the relationship between our members and the communities they call home. Through committed, local partnerships, we will promote Filipino-Canadian seniors, their culture, and their value to society.
Since joining UFCSAH, I have contributed to the many changes that have improved our organization. During my term as President, I shall focus on three key directives: growth, education, and volunteerism.
Growth in membership will bring additional resources, knowledge, and opportunities for collaboration with community partners and the public. It is our mandate and responsibility to strengthen our social standing through valued relationships and effective communication. Only then can we ideally position ourselves to meet and exceed our goals. I am glad to see more and more new members, some of whom I hope will serve on the Board one day. To date, under my leadership, we now have almost 400 lifetime members. To complement overall organizational growth, our transparent election process encourages individual growth in those seeking to advance and serve in a greater capacity.
My second directive is Education. This starts with securing funds for our programs: educational seminars, university and college scholarships, and ongoing learning assistance. Our members benefit socially and intellectually from free seminars on a wide array of topics, keeping them informed and in sync with a fast-paced world. Offering university and college scholarships has made UFCSAH a project driven Organization and will go a long way in strengthening community ties and elevating UFCSAH's image. We have much work to do, but these goals are within our sight and our reach.
Volunteerism, or service to society, is my third directive. All great organizations are built on the hard work, dedication, and tireless efforts of its members. Whether you join a committee or the Board, your service and value will not be forgotten. Every role counts, and every role impacts our image, our membership, and our future. Together, let’s make that future count. Let’s build on the accomplishments of our predecessors and make them proud. Let’s brighten the lives of our seniors.
I shall continue to donate the UFCSAH website, its annual cost, expenses, updating and maintaining it. I have been producing the UFCSAH Newsmagazine (including designing and sourcing out advertisers) since 2013 and will continue to do so.
I thank my predecessor for his leadership, knowledge, and wisdom. He has given us that and much more over the past years.
May the coming year be our best.
I am sincerely yours,
Ruby Sarmiento Amog, Advocate for the Elderly, Women, and Children, Serving the Hamilton Community, National and International
